Description:
Using land he was given from the British king as a result of him owing Penn's father a debt, William Penn founded Pennsylvania as a refuge for Quakers, who were persecuted during the time for their inclusive, non discriminatory beliefs. The colony instituted a government that gave unprecedented freedom to citizens and represents a major step towards democracy and religious freedom in America.
