9h 27min, dec 20, 1989 y - Operation Just Cause
Description:
In 1983 Manuel Noriega, a member of the Panamanian military and former CIA operative, became dictator of Panama. The U.S. government cut ties with Noriega due to allegations of his support of communism and connection to illicit drug trade. Tensions mounted as the Panamanian Defense Forces began harassing U.S. ships at the Panama Canal, culminating in the shooting death of a U.S. Marine. On December 20th, roughly 21,00 troops (12,000 of which were already there) invaded Panama and swiftly defeated the PDF, setting up Guillermo Endara as the new President. Noriega was later arrested and convicted on drug trafficking and money laundering charges.
