jan 1, 1937 - Court packing
Description:
FDR attempted to increase his power and the power of the judicial branch during and after his presidency by trying to appoint new, liberal reform-minded individuals to the Supreme Court. He proposed a new court with 15 appointees and an age limit for service. His proposal, however, was unpopular, and was rejected by the Senate in a 70-22 vote. SCOTUS itself later declared his court packing unconstitutional.
