jan 1, 1946 - 1946 - George Kennan's long telegram and Winston Churchill's "Sinews of Peace" speech created the doctrine of containment, in which those countries where communism existed would be left alone, but communism would not be permitted to spread anywhere else. The later NSC-68 would support this doctrine.
