jan 1, 1904 - 1904 - Theodore Roosevelt declared the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine, which proclaimed that the United States would police the Western Hemisphere, specifically the Caribbean. In effect this meant that the United States would consider it its right to send its military into various countries in order to restore or create regimes favorable to the United States.
