However, the SCLC found less co- operation with African Americans than in the south, virulent resistance from racist whites and clever tactics from Mayor Richard Daley, who was far more subltle than the likes of 'Bull' Connor and Jim Clark. The campaign ended in defeat without any significant change being made.)
