apr 30, 2024 - Operation Rough and Ready
Description:
During the Mexican Civil War, the United States offered to help secure the northern region of Mexico in exchange for ownership of Baja California. The Mexican government accepted and soon American soldiers flooded over the border, fighting against insurgent groups and cartels. The region was occupied for the duration of the war, and the failure of the Mexican government to negotiate the return of the territory allowed the US to annex the area, brining 5 more states into the Union. This is seen as a key event in Latin America being anti-American during the Second Cold War.
