jan 8, 1914 - 1914: The Universal Negro Improvement Association (The UNIA was founded by Marcus Garvey, he believed that African Americans should focus on building up their own education and businesses and take control of their own affairs. He also encouragedblacks to have pride in themselves and their culture. Ultimately he believed that a return to Africa, would offer the best future for black people. As a result heestablished the Black Star Line.)
