jan 1, 1920 - 1920 - The ratification of the 19th amendment granted women the right to vote in federal elections across the country. This was the culmination of decades of gradual and then rapid progress with regards to women's suffrage, but strangely did not affect all that many women. By the time the amendment was ratified, many states had already passed laws allowing women to vote.
