3h 14min, aug 4, 1914 y - British forces declare war on Germany
Description:
The British always wasn't so keen on joining wars because their main focus was trying to build up its already huge army. They formed many alliances and tried to stop many wars. They finally joined the war because of two contributing factors - Firstly they didn't believe that one country in Europe should be "in control", and saw that Germany was close to doing so. Secondly, the British formed an alliance with the Belgians and are sworn to protect them if they are attacked. Australia's deep connection with the British led them to join the war when they did. Australia was almost pressured into joining the war, to keep the respect of the country. Almost all of the Australian non-indigenous population was British, so they were keen on joining the battle to fight for their mother country.
