Description:
African American veterans returned home eager to continue the fight for freedom. They were soon faced with the reality that the fight for civil rights and freedom would be a long shot attempt. Red Summer of 1919 refers to a series of anti-black riots that exploded the major cities across the states. Including Houston, Texas, Chicago, Illinois, Washington D.C., Omaha, Nebraska, and Elaine, Arkansas. These racial riots against blacks resulted from post war tensions related to the demobilization of veterans of WW1, and competition for jobs and housing.
