Tiananmen Square massacre occurred when Chines citizens began to want a democratic government. They called this the Fith Modernization and during the spring hundreds of thousands of student's and other pro-democracy citizens gather in Tiananmen Square. They protested for the abolishment of the corrupt government, and better conditions in universities. The government acted swiftly dispatching soldiers and a multitude of other things to stop this assembly. One of the most well-known acts of this event is a man only known as Tank Man. Tank Man is a picture of a man standing in front of multiple tanks driving down Beijing's main road. His heroic act of civil disobedience made front covers of newspapers worldwide. The fate of thes Tan Man is unknown. In the end, Deng Xiaoping’s actions end with the deaths of hundreds and thousands severely wounded. These actions shocked the West who abruptly cut of ties with China. International aid agencies stopped loans. This act severely hurt China’s economy.
