jan 1, 1877 - 1877 - The Great Railroad Strike sought wage increases after the third consecutive drop in wages by the Baltimore and Ohio railroad. Many strikers were killed when states and cities organized armed militias to break the strikes, and in the wake of the strike labor unions began to form.
