jan 1, 1800 - Literature: Romantic Period
Description:
Romantics oftentimes found inspiration in nature, like the woods, the birds, flowers, and mountains. A reminder of all living things despite the Industrial Revolution.
Romantics were non-conformists and insisted on being rebellious. They insisted on standing out from the crowd and finding the beauty in being unique.
Because of their non-conformist mindset, heroism is another characteristic of the Romantic period. This is seen in Shelley's Frankenstein, as the monster is the hero of this piece of literature.
Emotion is such an integral aspect of the literature of this time period. Romantics were nothing if not sentimental. They were obsessed with talking about their feelings. Since the industrial revolution was occurring, there were a lot of different feelings that the people of the time weren't necessarily able to express.
