may 8, 1945 - End of WWII In Europe
Description:
Also known as V-E Day, or victory in Europe Day, May 8th 1945 marked the day of Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender to the allies. Fun Fact: as it was already the 9th in the Soviet Union when Germany surrendered, as a result of time-zones, they celebrate V-E Day on the 9th. Fascism was finally crushed, but the specter of communism would creep over Europe and Asia, leading to the Cold War.
