Description:

Spindletop is an oil field in the south part of Beaumont, Texas. The Spindletop gusher gushed for 9 days producing around 100,000 barrels of oil per day. Gulf Oil and Texaco which are now part of Chevron Corporation were formed to develop the oil at Spindletop. Before Spindletop oil was mostly used for light, but because of the amount of oil found burning petroleum as a common fuel suddenly became reasonably affordable.
