Description:
Eli Whitney saw the benefits of developing "interchangeable parts" for the firearms of the United States military to improve their quality and construction costs/speeds. In July 1801 he built ten guns, all containing the same exact parts and mechanisms, then disassembled them before the United States Congress. He placed the parts in a mixed pile and, with help, reassembled all of the guns right in front of Congress. This demonstration led to Congress creating a national standard for parts and items. (This allowed for railroads, cars, guns, and supplies to be rapidly produced at a high quality, and made it easier to tame the wild lands in the West.)
