John Wilson escapes the scandal in his hometown and travels to Saskatoon, Canada. He blames Alex for making him exile. John chooses Sakatoon because it's the "... "Fastest Growing City in the World," "The Minneapolis & St. Paul of the West" and "The Eight- Year-Old Wonder of the British Empire."" John finds a job working on the University Bridge. He writes to Polly back home often, he also sends home a lot of money. He later gets laid off from the bridge building job, and finds new work as a garderner in Saskatoon's new parks.

This is significant because it is the start of his new life in Canada. John gets to expirience Canada to the fullest. As he escapes his family back home, we learn that John almost erases his past.
