jan 1, 1953 - The First Five Year Plan

Description:

Following the devastation brought upon the Chinese state by the civil war, the Chinese government began instituting a number of policies involving the industrialization and revitalization of China as a whole. These policies were grouped into the first of many Five-Year Plans, which was modeled after the similar Soviet system. Some of the major portions of the plan involved the building up of Chinese industry, and land reforms, which granted the Chinese peasants formerly-warlord controlled territory to organize into their own collectivized farms - the rest were controlled by the government.
As a whole, the First Five-Year Plan was a success in terms of the Chinese economy, despite the millions of people that had died during its execution. This lead to a greatly increased efficiency in agriculture and industry.
