Geroge Melies, a French producer created the first horror movie known "The House of the Devil" Although the Americans produced the first Frankenstein, Jekyll and Hyde movie adaptations, the most famous horror films of the 1920' derived from the German expressionist movement like "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" and "Nosferatu", totally influencing the next generation of American cinema. In addition to this, the actor Lon Chaney single-handedly kept American horror afloat with "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", "The Phantom of The Opera" and "The Monster", setting the Universal dominance of the 1920's.
