jan 1, 1200 - Timbuktu Mathematical Manuscripts
Description:
The Timbuktu Mathematical Manuscripts from one of the world’s oldest universities in Sankore, Male, were mathematical and astronomical in nature. The manuscripts were written in Arabic and local languages such as Sonhay and Tamasheq. When Europeans began colonizing Mali, the manuscripts were hidden in attics and underground, so not many remain in good condition. According to the Ta Neter Foundation, these “attest to the continuous knowledge of advanced knowledge of mathematics and science well before European colonization."
