Description:

Moses Austin was a banker and a business owner that dreamed of starting a U.S. colony in Spanish Texas. Spanish officials granted him a huge piece of land in 1821. After Moses died that same year, his some Stephen took over his dad's dream. Stephen Austin arrived in Texas just as Mexico declared independence from Spain and they took control over Texas. Mexican officials agreed to let Austin start his colony under some conditions.
