Description:
After an earlier French failure, the United States built
the the canal that traverses the isthmus of Panama. In
order to do so, the U.S. supported Panamanian rebels
in their bid to be free of Columbia. Upon their success,
the Panamanian government allowed the U.S. to build
and control the canal.
