The German invasion of Poland only lasted one month, until Germany held all of western Poland. The German military used Blitzkrieg, or lightning warfare, to take Poland quickly using fast tanks with air support, which overwhelmed the Polish military before they could retaliate. On September 17th, the Soviets began their invasion, and Poland fell completely to the Germans and Russians. The invasion marked the start of WWII in Europe.
