The Treaty of Versailles laid out the terms of peace between the Allied powers and Germany. The treaty was mainly negotiated between the US, Great Britain, and France. Great Britain and France wanted revenge on Germany, so they imposed harsh terms such as the war guilt clause, large reparation payments, and reduction of the German military. German colonies were split between Britain and France and administered as mandates. In addition, the treaty redrew the map of Europe to include new nations from the old Austro-Hungarian, Russian, and Ottoman Empires. In addition, the League of Nations was founded. The harsh terms on Germany in the treaty created resentment towards the Allied powers and eventually led to WWII.Added to timeline:
