Description:
In response to the perceived threat of West Germany joining NATO an opposing organisation was formed by the USSR.It was a joint security organisation that allowed the militaries of the Eastern Bloc to be almost directly controlled by Moscow.
There was little that the UN and the West could do about it due to the existing presence of NATO.
