The Berlin West Africa Conference happened from 1884-1885 and was simply a matter of discussing rules and restrictions regarding the colonization of Africa. Both uninterested and countries that wished to create colonies came together, as those who were not included wanted some kind of say in the matter. Basically, each power had to notify the others of their claims, and then usually obtain permission (usually forced) from African chiefs or leaders.Added to timeline:
