Description:

Voter registration drive sponsored by civil rights organizations, including as the Congress on Racial Equality (CORE) and the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), to increase black voting in Mississippi. The project includes black Mississippians and more than 1,000 predominately white volunteers. However, the KKK and authorities violently attack the activists, including arson, beatings, false arrest and the murder of at least three people.
This event spurred struggles for political changes in voting rights.
