In 750 BCE, Rome was founded by Romulus, the to-be emperor of Rome. According to mythology, he was one of two brothers, and he and his brother, Remus were orphaned as children. Their uncle, an evil king was jealous of the two boys, so he placed them in a basket, and left them to drown on a raging river. By coincidence, the she-wolf, Lupa was bathing in the river, and saw the two boys. Out of pity, she cared for them before leaving them to be found by a shepherd and his wife. The two brothers soon grew to be shepherds, like their father. When the boys were herding sheep, royal shepherds captured Remus to take him to the king. Romulus gathered a fighting force of shepherds and freed his brother, while also killing the king. The brothers wanted to found a city, but both brothers argued on the location, as both brothers wanted it to be located on separate hills. Eventually, the two brothers got into an argument, and Romulus ended up killing Remus. Romulus founded his city and named it after himself. It was originally named Roma, but was soon changed to Rome. Romulus became the first emperor, and started a chain of many prestigious and well known rulers. Rome soon expanded into one of the biggest empires in all of documented history.
