mar 6, 1857 - Dred Scott v Sanford
Description:
Dred Scott was a slave from Missouri ,but his slaveholder moved them to Illonois, a free state. It was prohibited to have slaves here due to the Missouri compromise of 1820. After returning to Missouri Scott filed a law suit on his slaveholder. He claimed since he resided in free territory that meant he was a free man. Scott lost this case because according to article III of the constitution, no "negro" or child of slaves could be considered a citizen.
