S not progress much postwar, (1955) Rosa Parks - college-educated AA seamstress, NAACP active member; Took seat in white section of bus in Montgomery, AL, Arrested for violating city's Jim Crow laws → boycott of city buses; Showed that AA will not submit to segregation;
→ Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. becomes popular; from Montgomery's Dexter Avenue Baptist Church;
lasted from Dec 1 1955 - Dec 26 1956; one of foundational moments of Civ Rights mvmt; led to Supreme Court decision opposing segregated busing;
