Description:
The Teller Amendment was an amendment to a joint resolution of the United States Congress, enacted in reply to President William McKinley's War Message. It placed a condition on the United States military's presence in Cuba. It said that the US would not annex Cuba once the war with Spain ended. The amendment guaranteed US respect for Cuba's sovereignty as an independent ration.
