Description:

Description: The Union wanted to capture the Mississippi river so they advanced into Vicksburg, Mississippi.  There they met the Confederates two days after Gettysburg and ended up winning the battle.
Immediate Impact: Along with Gettysburg the North knew they were going to win.
Long-term impact: This marked one of the last battles of the Civil war which led to its end. It lead to the North's victory.
Key people: Ulysses Grant, John Pemberton, and John McClellan
Role of each person: Ulysses Grant was the general of the union and fought against John Pemberton. After the loss John McClelland.
