Description: The Union attempted to invade into Pennsylvania but was stopped. They were met by Union soldiers. The confederates eventually retreated. In this battle 46,000-51,000 casualties occurred. Since this battle was the bloodiest Lincoln required that the dead soldiers be given respect.
Immediate Impact: North rejoiced while the South knew they would never gain offense again.
Long-term impact: Turned the war in the Union's favor and the Gettysburg address.
Key people: George Gordon, Robert lee, Joseph Hooker
Role of each person: George Gordon was the leader of the union along with Joseph Hooker who was appointed by Lincoln. Robert lee was the general who led the confederates into the Battle of Gettysburg.
