Description: The purpose of the March to the Sea was to scare Georgia’s civilian population into abandoning the Confederate cause. Sherman’s men marched through Georgia, South Carolina and parts of North Carolina. His men stole livestock, burned houses, and damaged the railroads.
Immediate impact: Broke the South's morale and damaged southern cities.
Long term impact: The South had a lot of rebuilding they needed to do. This led to the Reconstruction period in the South.
