The concubine-wife of al-Mahdi and mother of Harun al-Rashid. Khayzuran exhibited great control over the early years of al-Rashid's reign, including killing his brother to ensure he got the caliph. Due to her amassing of caliphate wealth, upon her death she exhibited great philanthropy by building mosques among other things.
