I think that this battle is import because it was the last major land battle of the Persian war. The two groups, Greeks and Persians were at a stalemate. They were facing each other off from far away, but if one group stepped out of their spot, the other would easily kill them. So, the Greeks faked a retreat, and when the Persians came after them, the Greeks turned around and forced them into an actual retreat.
