This is very important to how WWII played out. For a while before the invasion, the Allied Powers had appeased Hitler, or let him take territory. However, this stopped with Poland. Britain promised to help the Poles if Hitler invaded, and when he did, the British government declared war on Germany. If the Allies had continued to appease Hitler, he may have grown too powerful to be defeated at all.
