Hitler had concentration camps built, inspired by Stalin's work camps, and sent jewish people to them. Most of them were gassed in gas chambers and the remainder were forced into labor until they died from disease or exhaustion. Medical experiments were conducted at the camps too, brutally murdering them in the process. In total, 11 million people were killed in the holocaust, with 6 million that were Jewish people. The significance of this event is that so many people lost their lives. The genocide is the most well known for it's atrocities and crimes against humanity.
