jan 1, 1942 - The mass murder of Jewish people at Auschwitz begins
Description:
Starting in 1942, Hitler began the mass murder of Jewish people at Auschwitz in order to fulfill his goal of exterminating the "world enemy." Hitler forced Jews and other minorities to go to concentration camps where they were stripped of everything they knew and were forced to work. The people in concentration camps often died quickly because they got shot, in gas chambers, or because of health reasons. I think this event was extremely significant because if Hitler did not begin the genocide against the Jews known as the Holocaust, the world may look very different today. The Holocaust shaped our world in many ways especially since it was one of the most significant genocides it propelled the creation of the United Nations in order to create the International Court of Justice. The Holocaust also pulled Jewish families apart and forced people to flee to other countries, so many Jews may not even be in the U.S. if the Holocaust did not occur.
