dec 18, 1860 - Blacks and Their Lives

Description:

Jim Crow Laws:
Jim Crow Laws were passed and required the voter to be able to read and write, poll taxes, and voter registration laws.
These practices were backed by the federal government after the verdict of Plessy V. Ferguson in 1896, which stated that:
“separate but equal” facilities were
constitutional. In reality, these facilities were often inferior in every ay to white families.

-Blacks were then forced into jobs like sharecropping and tenant farming. Former slaves were often found still working for their original masters.
-Racial tension reached an all-time high with whites silencing any blacks who spoke against
the south This resulted in Lynching
rates skyrocketing in 1890
