Description:

This spacecraft was America’s second artificial satellite and was also the first to encounter another planet. The Mariner 2 was launched on 27 August, 1962 and was set to complete a flyby mission to Venus. It included electronics for communications, data encoding, computing, tiing, attitude control, battery and attitude control gas bottles. It has solar panel wings attached to it which had a span of 5.05 meters and a width of 0.76 meters.
