jan 13, 1976 - Irredentist Article in London Times
Description:
Ewe pan-nationalism has not abated since independence and was even lauded (for both pragmatic and nationalistic reasons) by President Eyadema, a northerner, who in the 1970s had in his cabinet several officials specifically charged with exploiting this issue in relations vis à vis Ghana. On January 13, 1976, for example, the government published an ad in the London Times calling for a "restoration" of Togo's pre-colonial bordersa direct challenge to Ghana. The regime also supported irredentist (''Liberation'') movements on both sides of the border, though their activities often escalated beyond the control of Lomé.
