dec 7, 1685 - Revocation of the Edict of Nantes
Description:
King Louis XIV revoked the Edict of Nantes as a counter-strike against the increased presence of the Protestant Reformation. The revocation required that all convert to Catholicism or face persecution. This resulted in a mass emigration movement, although fleeing was technically prohibited by the Edict of Fontainebleau, which replaced the Edict of Nantes.
