jun 12, 1832 - British Reform Bill

Description:

This was a law passed in the House of Commons to reform the election system in Great Britain. The previous system had given people very few people the right to vote and made it easy for those running for election to buy votes. After the bill was rejected in the House of Lords, riots broke out, causing the king and many members of the House of Lords to become unpopular. The House of Lords eventually passed the bill under immense outside pressure. While the bill made some improvements in the distribution of representatives and the amount of people who could vote, it was still fairly conservative.
