Description:
The first steam locomotive able to achieve a speed of 35 miles per hour. The Rocket was the first efficient steam-powered transportation in the world and provided the foundation for the modern railroad train. The arrival of railroad transportation decreased the cost and inefficiency of land transportation. Railroad transportation also allowed for the further development of domestic trade between different cities. Company catalogs began to spread across England and other countries with railroads. People were able to order and receive basically any good on the market in record time. Travel time was also greatly reduced.
To maintain the growing railroad industry, a large number of unskilled laborers were needed to construct and operate railroads.
