London hosted an industrial fair at the Crystal Palace, which was made entirely of glass and iron. It represented a celebration of technology development and Britain’s rule as an economic leader. Around the world, 6 million visitors saw the exhibition hall that showed off British technological innovation. At the same time, in 1860, Britain was a manufacturing leader, made possible by the development of factories and a rapid population boom.
