Description:

Christopher Columbus lands in the the Carribean Islands on August 3rd 1492. While he certainly did not discover the New World (as you cannot discover land that already has millions of people living there), and he was also not even the first European to make it to the New World (The Vikings landed in Northeastern Canada in the 9th Century). Columbus' voyage is important however because it was the spark that led to Europeans coming to the New World in great numbers.
