Iran successfully launched a satellite-carrying rocket into space in Tehran, Iran. Safir is a space vehicle which was unsuccessful in its first space-launch. The first known successful launch was, the Safir-2. The launch marks a major step forward for the growth of Iran's space program, however, nations feared this movement for Iran might aim to develop space weapons. Iran is increasingly capable of employing multistaged missiles in the near future, for recent tests of Iran's two-staged missiles have not yet been successful. State television in Iran described the launch as involving a "Simorgh" rocket that is capable of carrying a 550-pound satellite.
