Description:
It was about this time that the Nephites began to repent and cry unto the Lord. The curse on the land had become so severe that no one could hold onto anything. This is attributed to thieves, robbers, murderers, the magical arts, and witchcraft.
When Mormon saw that the people began to cry unto the Lord he took courage from this, hoping that they would be led back to God and once again become a righteous people. It seems that this went on for a few years before Mormon realized that his hope was vain. For the people did not turn to repentance, but cried to God in cursing and reviling Him.
